This Memorial Box was created for a dear friend 's father's ashes. He gave me very specific instructions for the piece, including the size and imagery. He was worried that I'd feel constricted by the confines of the piece; instead, it was both an honor and a joy to make.

Mixing Media, Magic
The challenge of this project was to transform this piano bench into the perfect end table for this cozy spot. I used a stencil-art print that the client already owned, and decoupaged it under the glass top, both striking and practical. I did the same to Japanese handprinted paper for the table "skirt". I then used hand-cut glass gems in my mosaic for the legs and edges, which I finished in a charcoal grout. The result it an absolutely unique and perfectly integral piece of art in the client's home.

At times, mosaic is not the best medium for a special project. In these cases, its my love of blending different media and materials that inspires me to produce these unusual art objects. One, a waste bin for recycling paper; the other a composting bin for the kitchen counter. Both had to be works of art that the owners would enjoy looking at for years to come.
